Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction

Jon Kabat-Zinn (the founder of Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction) defines this modality as "paying attention in a particular way; on purpose, in the present moment, and nonjudgmentally". Mindfulness Meditation most often uses the observation of one’s breathing to help anchor oneself in the present moment. This process of being present to ourselves fully creates space in which calm, peace, emotional regulation and focus can enter. The benefits of Mindfulness Meditation are well documented and research has even shown less brain shrinkage among meditators. It also helps with pain perception. A wonderful effect of meditating mindfully is that one begins to live life paying closer attention to what is happening in the now, thus ameliorating the unnecessary stress brought on by worrying about the past or the future.
